Meet the Coaches

The ZAP Fitness elite athletes are some of the highest achieving and most talented athletes in the country. But don’t let that intimidate you! Just like our Adult Running Vacations, ZAP Fitness Coaching is for runners of all levels from beginners to experienced age group competitors. It doesn’t matter how long you have been running, everyone needs guidance in their daily running to maximize their potential, stay injury free and most importantly, to keep it fun and enjoyable.​ We have two brilliant coaches on staff to help you reach your running goals!

Coach Ryan

Ryan is in his 8th year coaching at ZAP Fitness and has worked with athletes of all levels, including the elite athletes at ZAP. Ryan is a USATF Level 1 certified coach and serves as the Assistant Coach for the ZAP Elite athletes as well as the head coach for ZAP Fitness Coaching and co-director for the ZAP Fitness Adult Running Vacations at ZAP throughout the summer. In his time on the coaching staff ZAP has had 16 


Athletes Qualify for US Olympic Trials, 3 World Championship Appearances on Team USA, 9 Club Record Performances, the 2010 and 2014 National Club Cross Country Team Championship, and over 2 dozen Top Ten Finishes at USATF Track and Road Championships. Ryan has taken his knowledge from years of competing at a high level as well as working with some of the best athletes in the nation and applied it to personally coaching athletes all across the country and the world.
As the head coach for ZAP Fitness Coaching and has worked with dozens of athletes ranging from beginners to experienced age group competitors, high school athletes to grand masters athletes, and beyond. He has coached dozens of athletes to Boston Marathon Qualifying times, multiple athletes to top 10 national age group finishes, guided a number of people to their first marathon and half marathon finishes, and countless runners to personal bests at distances from the mile to the marathon.


Ryan is a native of Franklin, Indiana where he was a 2002 graduate of Franklin Community High School. After graduation he attended Arizona State where he ran cross country and track and field. Ryan graduated from ASU in 2006 with a B.A. in Political Science and received his MBA from Appalachian State in 2013. Upon graduation Ryan moved to Blowing Rock, North Carolina to continue his running career at ZAP Fitness. Ryan was a resident athlete at ZAP for nearly four years before joining the coaching staff in the spring of 2010. Ryan has a younger sister who works as a nurse in and his parents reside in his hometown of Franklin, IN. It has been suggested that Ryan has an inordinate support of all things Indiana, including the Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts, and county fairs.

Coach Matt

Matt joined ZAP Fitness as an assistant coach and facility manager in May of 2017. LoPiccolo spent the previous 4 years as a assistant coach at Duke University and 13 years as the head coach at SUNY Oneonta. The former SUNY Plattsburgh All-American brings an abundance of experience to the ZAP 

coaching staff including successfully coaching athletes across events lines, from the sprints to middle distance and far beyond. While at Duke, LoPiccolo guided the women’s 4×400 relay to the NCAA Championships in each of his first 3 years, including earning 1st-team All-American honors when they placed 6th at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships in a school record time of 3:32.56. In his 4th year, LoPiccolo switched gears and guided 3 middle distance women to the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships, a first for each. During his time at Duke, LoPiccolo founded and directed the Blue Devil Track Club where he worked with athletes at every level from youth track and field athletes to master’s distance runners. The past two years he has served as the camp director for the Duke Running Camp and Co-Director for the Duke Track and Field Camp where he has overseen the growth of the camps.​

As the head coach at SUNY Oneonta, he was named NCAA Regional Coach of the year 3 times, while also garnering the SUNYAC coach of the year honor 3 times. His student-athletes earned 41 Division III All-American awards, 5 of which were also NCAA Champions. LoPiccolo coached 114 SUNYAC Individual/Relay Champions and 23 ECAC Champions in 11 years. His crowning team moments occurred when the Red Dragon women placed 3rd in the country at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Championships, in only their 4th year as an NCAA sport. In his last season at Oneonta, the men captured the school’s first ever SUNYAC team title at the 2013 Indoor Championships. As an athlete, LoPiccolo earned Division III All-American honors at the 1998 NCAA Indoor Championships, where he placed 5th in the 800 meters. Later that outdoor season, he ran the fastest time of 1:50.34 in Division III that year. As a post-collegiate athlete running for the Syracuse Chargers Track Club, LoPiccolo ran 3:43.56 for 1,500 meters, narrowly missing the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying time. After concluding his competitive career, LoPiccolo served as the Elite Development Team Director for the Chargers where he coached 3 athletes to US Championship berths, including his wife Amanda. Now as a ZAP Fitness Coach, LoPiccolo applies this vast experience and his knowledge working with athletes of all ages and abilities from around the country. In his role as facility manager, LoPiccolo plays an integral role in the management of the day to day operations on the ZAP campus.
