Cathy O’Brien

Cathy O’Brien will make her ZAP Speaking debut in 2018 after a long and distinguished distance running career. Her journey began in high school in 1984 when she finished in 9th place in the 1984 Olympic Trials Marathon. Her time of 2:34:24 still stands as the national high school record for that distance. In the next two Olympic Marathon Trials, she finished third in a time of 2:30:18, qualifying for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, where she would go on to finish 40th, and in 1992 she finished second in a time of 2:30:28, qualifying her for the Barcelona Games in Spain, where she was the first American finishing 10th overall. Her personal best in the marathon of 2:29:38 came in 1991, when she won the Los Angeles Marathon.

She is married to her husband, Michael, and they have two sons, Patrick and Andrew. Cathy is currently the Orchestra Director for Berwick Academy and she lives in Durham, New Hamsphire.
