ZAP Puts 4 in the Top 10 at Manchester Road Race

The Manchester Road Race (4.74 miles) in Manchester, Connecticut has become a holiday tradition for the ZAP Elite resident team since 2002, but there has yet to be a year as successful as 2009 with all 4 ZAP athletes who competed finishing in the top 10. On the men's side first year resident athlete David Jankowski continued his successful fall by finishing 3rd in a time of 21:44, just 4 seconds behind winner Haron Lagat of New Mexico (21:40). 2nd year ZAP athlete Dave Nightingale was 7th in a time of 22:05, 37 seconds faster than his 2008 performance. In the women's race ZAP rookie Alissa Mckaig finished 6th in a time of 22:56 with Jessica Minty 8th in a time of 26:08, 41 seconds faster than her 2008 race.

 

Jankowski Runs 28:27 to Win Track 10,000m in Indy

David Jankowski ran his first track race as a ZAP Fitness resident athlete on Halloween evening and came away with both a win and a sizable personal best. Competing under moonlit skies on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, Jankowski and 5 other athletes took part in the 3rd annual American Miler Series 10,000m hosted by the Indiana Invaders and coach Greg Harger. Fellow ZAP resident athlete Dave Nightingale served as the official pacemaker for the event. After an early 2,000m by local Indiana Invaders runners, Nightingale took over and brought the field through the 5k mark in 14:17.8. After cruising through 4 miles (6400m) in 18:16 Nightingale stepped off the track at 6600m and Jankowski was on his own for the remainder of the race. Jankowski's final 5,000m was 14:09.5 for a finishing time of 28:27.4, a personal best by 24 seconds. The performance is the 13th fastest by an American in 2009. Hanson's / Brooks athlete Christian Wagner was 2nd in 29:10.

 

 

 

Grace runs 5,000m PR at Portland Distance Festival

Friday June 12th saw a number of top level performances for ZAP resident athletes at the Portland Track Festival at Lewis & Clark College (Portland, OR). Highlighting the meet was 3rd year ZAP athlete Allison Grace who finished 2nd in the women's 5,000m run in a personal best time of 15:50.17, 5 hundredths of a second behind winner Rene Metivier-Baille. The performance lowered her previous best (16:03.9) by more than 13 seconds and is Grace's 3rd PR at 5,000m this season. In the men's 5,000m event ZAP's Thomas Morgan was the official pacesetter, leading the pack through 3,000m in 8:14 before stepping off the track. First year ZAP resident David Nightingale finished 8th in a time of 13:59. Nate Peck (13th) and Frank Tinney (17th) rounded out the 5,000m event for the ZAP men. Concluding the evening for ZAP was first year female athle te Jessica Minty, who finished the 10,000m in a time of 34:18, narrowly missing a personal best.
