Grace / Morgan Perform Well at Falmouth Road Race | |
ZAP resident athletes Allison Grace and Thomas Morgan took to the roads of New England on Sunday (8/10) at the historic Falmouth Road Race. Both came away with solid performances over the rolling 7 mile course. Grace finished 17th overall (9th American) in a time of 39:03, and Morgan, coming off his 13:27.4 5,000m race in Europe, was 18th overall (7th American) in a time of 34:18.
ZAP Adds Princeton's Tinney to Resident Elite Roster
ZAP Fitness has added 2008 Princeton university graduate Frank Tinney to its' resident roster for the 2008 - 2012 push. Tinney, a 5-Time All Ivy League Performer for the Tigers, has run 13:55 for 5,000m on the track as well as 23:47 for 8,000m cross country. Tinney joins fellow Princeton teammate David Nightingale as two of ZAP's five new athletes arriving in Blowing Rock this fall. The other three are CW Moran, Jessica Minty, and Nate Peck.
Marathon Mini-Camp Successful
Sunday 8/10 marked the conclusion of ZAP's first ever "marathon mini-camp." The sold-out session included talks regarding performance based nutrition, exercise science, training theory, weight training, and a video-tape analysis of biomechanics. The group also did a "marathon prep" longer run on the Virginia Creeper Trail and heard guest speaker Dick Beardsley share his experiences as well. Thank you to all who attended. We hope to see you in 2009!
College Season Underway at ZAP
8/12 saw the first college team of the year, Augusta State (GA) University, arrive at ZAP for their pre-season camp. The team and Coach Adam Ward are enjoying cool mountain running and great meals from Chef John. In the coming weeks ZAP will play host to a variety of college programs including N.C.State, The University of Texas, Milligan College, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Duke and Radford to name a few.

Morgan runs 13:27.4 5,000m at Heusden! | |
The weekend of 7/19 - 7/20 saw excellent racing on both sides of the pond for team ZAP Fitness. On Sunday 7/20, 3rd year ZAP resident athlete Thomas Morgan toed the line at the highly competitive KBC Night of Athletics (Heusden, Belgium) and came away with a 9.5 second personal best and ZAP 5,000m club record time of 13:27.4. Morgan's previous best was 13:36.9 from 2007. Morgan, a finalist at this year's Olympic Trials, has now knocked more than 16 seconds off his 5,000m best since his arrival at ZAP in 2005. Morgan will be running the Falmouth Road Race (7 Miles) on August 10th.
Grace Wins USATF - NC Championship
ZAP's Alli Grace, fresh off her Olympic Trials 10,000m race in Eugene, Oregon, took to the roads on Saturday 7/19 at the Beat the Heat 5k in Winston Salem, NC. Moving away from the field at the 2 mile mark over a hilly course, Grace went on to win unchallenged in a time of 16:29. The race served as the USA Track and Field North Carolina Championship. Both Grace and Morgan will be running the Falmouth Road Race (7 miles) on August 10th.
Camps in Full Swing
We are now hosting our 2nd full week of adult running vacations here at ZAP. Twenty-Two runners from Bend, Oregon to Chicago, Illinois are enjoying cool weather running and education from the ZAP staff.

ZAP Fitness has added 4 new resident athletes to its' elite athlete roster for the 2008 - 2012 push. They include...
David Nightingale – Princeton University
Nightingale, a Princeton University Graduate, brings both speed and strength to the ZAP Fitness team. An All American in both track (mile / 5,000m) and Cross Country, the Connecticut native has run 7:59 for 3,000 meters as well as 13:49 for the 5,000m.
Jessica Minty – Colby College (ME)
Minty is a native of Concord, Massachusetts and brings an excellent resume to team ZAP Elite. Minty is a 2006 Colby College graduate where she excelled in events from the 800m to the 10,000m. As a post collegian this past year Minty ran 9:17 for 3,000m, which placed her 7th at the USATF Indoor National Championships, and she was 7th at the USATF Club XC Championships. Minty has also run 4:24 for 1,500m and 16:27 for 5,000m.
Nate Peck – Grand Valley State University (MI)
Peck, a Michigan native, is coming off an outstanding career at Grand Valley State University. Peck was a 15 time All-American in track and cross country while at Grand Valley under coach Jerry Baltes. Peck enters his post collegiate career with a 5,000m PR of 14:00. Peck will be focusing on events ranging from the mile to the 10,000m over the coming years.
CW Moran – James Madison University (VA)
Moran is a Virginia native and was a standout in both track and cross country while running for James Madison University. A Colonial Conference Cross Country Champion, Moran has run 29:16 for 10,000m as well as 14:15 for 5,000m and 8:09 for 3k. Moran will be focusing on developing his strength toward a 2009 USATF Championship in the 5,000m and 10,000m.
