Nightingale, Morgan & Peck Compete at USATF Club Nationals | |
ZAP Fitness sent 3 athletes to the USATF Club Nationals in Spokane, WA this past weekend (12/13) and came away with strong performances to conclude the fall. In his first ever National Championship, ZAP first year resident athlete David Nightingale finished 10th over the snowy 10k course. Thomas Morgan, whose race opened his new winter season, was close behind in 12th, and 1st year ZAP athlete Nate Peck finished 28th after struggling the final kilometer. Temperatures at race start were 21 degrees with 30-40 mile per hour winds.
Nightingale and Peck will toe the line next at the Midnight Run in Central Park on New Year's Eve. Morgan will again see competition on January 18th at the USATF 1/2 Marathon Championships in Houston.

Grace Competes at Chiba Ekiden | |
On Monday November 24th, ZAP resident athlete Allison Grace joined 5 American teammates as part of the International Ekiden Relay in Chiba, Japan. Grace contested leg #4 (a 5,000m leg) and helped the US team to an 8th place finish among the 15 nations competing. Chiba marks Grace's 2nd selection to a US Team in 2008. The 3rd year ZAP athlete was part of the Yokohama, Japan Ekiden in February. An Ekiden Relay breaks up a Marathon distance (42k) into various legs.
ZAP Rookies Perform Well at Manchester Road Race
The Thanksgiving week also saw ZAP action at the 72nd running of the 4.748 mile Manchester (CT) Road Race. First year ZAP athletes CW Moran, David Nightingale, Nate Peck & Jess Minty performed well. Moran was 12th in 22:38 followed by Nightingale (14th in 22:42), Peck (15th in 22:49), and Minty finished 11th in the women's field in a time of 26:51.
ZAP Facility News - 2009 Calendar Already Filling Up
Our 2009 Calendar is filling up fast. 17 groups have already booked their retreats at the ZAP facility and campers are beginning to sign up for our adult runniing camps as well. Cycling groups, Yoga retreats, College and high school running teams, as well as triathletes will all spend time at the ZAP facility between April and November.

Morgan / Grace Conclude Outstanding 2008 Seasons at US Championships | |
On September 21st ZAP resident athletes Thomas Morgan and Allison Grace toed the line at the USATF 5k Road Race Championships at the CVS Downtown 5k in Providence, RI. Morgan came away with a 6th place performance (14:11) and Grace 7th (16:17). For Morgan this was his highest performance at a US Championship event. The following weekend (9/27) Grace headed to her home state of Ohio for the USATF Women's 8k Championship in Akron. Rolling through the 5k in 16:18, Grace went on to finish 10th in an impressive time of 26:39, a personal best by 38 seconds.
Roundtree Yoga Retreat a Success!
ZAP wants to thank Sage Roundtree and her 2008 Yoga retreat attendees for a great weekend. "Campers" came from as far as Vermont and Rhode Island for 2 1/2 days of Yoga, Running, and time in the ZAP hot tub.

Final 2008 Groups on Their Way to ZAP
In the coming weeks ZAP will play host to 3 additional college teams as well as members of the Jordanian National Junior Track & Field Squad. Virginia Tech arrives this weekend (10/3 - 10/5) followed by Milligan College (10/10 - 10/12) and lastly Radford University (10/17 - 10/19). In between 12 Track & Field athletes from Jordan, along with 3 interpreters and members of the United States State Department will spend 4 days in the High Country as part of a tour of the United States
